WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASHES

Following a cremation, your loved one's ashes will be brought into our care from the crematorium, unless otherwise specified. They are returned to us in a card box, held within paper. At Brodies Funeral Services, we offer a range of options, which can also be combined.

MEMORIAL IDEAS FOR YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASHES

KEEP AT HOME

The family can choose to keep all of the ashes at home in an urn or casket, or a small amount in a keepsake urn. We have a selection of both urns, caskets and keepsakes in our parlours if the family wish ideas.

JEWELLERY

Cremation jewellery is where a small amount of ashes are kept inside a jewellery item such as ring, bracelet or necklace, allowing you to keep your loved one close while wearing. Again, we hold stock and brochures in our parlours. We can also assist with ‘Ashes into Glass’.

SCATTER AT A SPECIAL PLACE

If there is a special or meaningful place to your loved one, the family may wish to scatter the ashes there. We hold a stock selection of ‘Scatter Tubes’ which aids the process of scattering.

*Public areas may have differing rules, if you require assistance we are happy to help*

BURIAL/INTERMENT AT A FAMILY CEMETERY POT

There is an ever growing popular choice of interring ashes in a cemetery plot, which would allow the family a place to visit and the option of having memorial to mark the grave. If the family do not already own a plot, West Lothian Cemeteries offer ‘Cremation Plots’ which hold four sets of ashes only, for a lesser fee than a full burial lair (holding up to three coffin burials and four sets of ashes).

CREMATORIUM GARDENS

All crematoriums have the option of dispersing ashes, either by interment or scattering, in their memorial gardens. We are happy to help with the choices available at your chosen crematorium.

Your family is welcome to purchase item from any company they wish, below are the companies we have vetted and approve for quality and service. JAMES BRODIE MEMORIALS

If the family were to choose to have their loved one’s ashes interred, West Lothian Cemeteries offer ‘Cremation Lairs’ in their cemeteries which hold four sets of ashes. As of 2020, the price of this is £283.01 to purchase and then £146.14 to have the ashes interred. The cemeteries require the ashes to be held in a wooden casket (fitted with nameplate as the coffin was), which we offer at £60. The family can, of course, have the ashes interred in a pre-purchased lair or purchase a full burial lair if other family members would prefer burial.

This allows the family to put up a headstone or memorial marking the grave, giving the family a place to visit. Prices available on request.

All of these suppliers only deal with the funeral director for security reasons, we would be happy to place the orders for you. If you have any questions or would like any help, please get in touch.
